Senator Caroline Steele, a born and raise Bostonian, has always wanted to implement change in her country. At age 16, she started volunteering countless hours at the MSPCA-Angell and since then she has fought for animal rights. After graduating Cum Laude from Wellesley College in 1994 with two B.S degrees in political science and veterinary medicine, Caroline decided to go to Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and got her DVM in 1998. While she loved practicing veterinary medicine, which she did for six years at the same MSPCA that she volunteered at in high school, a part of her didn’t feel totally complete. In 2006 she ran as a Moderate Democrat for senate and won by a 25% margin. Her opponents have called her a “socialist” because she believes that she that to have a strong society the country needs a strong government; but evidently this is what her constituents want because Caroline’s approval rating has stayed at a steady 92% since she was elected. As the junior senator from Massachusetts, Caroline presides on three committees:
- Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee
- Environment and Public Works Committee
- Appropriations Committee
On April 23, 2000, Caroline married Henry. They have three young children: twin 9 year old girls, Evangeline and Chloe, and one 7 year old son, Michael. Henry received his B.A in international relation from to Johns Hopkins University in 1992 and went on to get a PhD in history and a JD from Harvard University in 1998. He is currently a professor at Georgetown University. Caroline, to this day, has been a vegetarian for the past 20 years. The family lives in Alexandria, Virginia with their three cats.
